D1: Discuss Client Considerations

(D1) Watch the video of your pitch and the feedback from the client. Write a report that discusses the feedback from the client and the considerations/requirements and differentiate between useful points and points that do not add to the product creation.

Feedback should be used to further develop the initial idea in preparation for the product pre-production. Make a list of the points you would take on board when creating your pre-production materials.

Trailer -

In my developed/final trailer I will portray a larger sense of being hunted as that is the overall theme of the series which I will embed clearly so the audience know instantly the theme that 'Pigeon Hunt' offers. I will also portray Matthew as the protagonist and show him arriving new to the village so that audiences know he is an outsider and will empathise with him far more.

Poster -

In my pre production posters I will get images of my character acting stupid and funny to portray the comedy within the series which will also help attract young viewers to the characters and to watch the series.

Radio -

I feel within my radio advert I clearly portray a sense of someone being hunted, Matthew as a protagonist and where he lives as well as the sarcastic comedy value from the characters.

Social Media -

To make the audience more connected to the characters and for the characters to seem more real, I will post on social media as the characters saying a few lines or a current mood of theirs to truly get an audience to empathise and connect. This way as well I will show Matilda to be less strange and more independent as someone young people will connect with, creating a more positive female representation.

M3: Understand Feedback

(M3) The video includes the feedback that you were given by the client, questions that you were asked by the client and your responses.

Explain what you understood the feedback to be. The client was represented by Kristel Hutchings, a BBC Producer.

Matthew the protagonist -

-Who is he, what is he like (charismatic or introverted) ?
Matthew is quiet in his own right. He has a charismatic personality in the way he reacts to things as he is quite exaggerated within his own little bubble. His introverted character that dislikes the outdoors and socialising makes him qwerky and funny in the way he responds to people and objects. He is weary of new things and places and is specific as to who he interacts with.

-Why is he in the village?
Matthew's and his parents have moved up  to the village from sub-urban England because of their work. He has had no choice in the matter and has just taken his GCSE's and will go onto being educated at a college which is a bus ride away. Matthew becomes friends with Matilda and James because they are the only other kids in the village so they have been forced to be friends due to location circumstances.

-Why do we care about him?
We care about Matthew as a character because he has likable traits that allow the audience to relate to him. For most young people don't live in rural areas, Matthew's narrative and personal discovery's of the village allow us to empathise with somebody unused to rural life away from cities and towns.

-What's the theme of the series (evading being hunted)?
The overall theme of the series is being hunted connotating from the title 'Pigeon Hunt'. As Matthew the protagonist is on the run from what he believes police as well as Matilda who he thinks will kill him. There are other themes as well such as youth friendships, moving to a new place and disappearances.

-There will be weather limitations/ contingencies of filming on rural location?
For filming in rural Scotland there will be weather limitations. This is why scenic shots and wide scape landscape shots will be done on location and the rest such as in the village, a house or forest can be done either in a studio or within the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales.

-Representation: female character- her relationship to the audience, do we like her? Do we empathise with her?
Matilda as a character is strange and psychotic, yet we empathise with her because her lack of social skills makes her humorous. When we realise she is a killer, that's when our thoughts on her as a character change and we see that she is dangerous as well as strange.

-Marketing: How will I grab audiences attention?
Within my marketing the main scope of my advertisement that will attract an audience will be the horror and sinister tone over beautiful natural landscapes. I will show a lot of my setting through the advertising to show a mysterious place that an audience would like to delve in and discover more about

-How will I make it something young people will want to watch?
As well as settings, I will also use my young characters to attract the younger audience. I will have them posing in their more exaggerated expressions that are funny which I feel will be humorous for the audience and make young people want to get to know these archetype characters.

P3: Pitch to Communicate Ideas

(Presentation is tilted. Technical difficulty. Attempted to alter yet same problem occurred)

I will present my pitch to the client reading from my power point as well as additional information i have written on cue cards

P1: My Series Ideas

P2: Proposal and Client Documentation

After pitching my idea to the group I received the following feedback-

-Could the film have a more sinister feel?

In order to make the idea more sinister and scary I could take out the comedic aspects of the story and focus entirely on scaring an audience.

-Could the film have any more paranormal activity on the basis of horror?

With the the story line moment when the boy is killed I could use some supernatural effects or paranormal activity to add to the horror. This could be done by having him come back or a ghost of some sort. Or I could have the girl being far more scary and grotesque with her murdering.

-How could could you get people to relate the the film/engaged?

Having a young cast and a female killer a lot more people can be engaged and relate to this cast and story line.

-Does the pilot have potential to make an entire series?

From the point where the boy is killed the story has a wide angle to go from developing into many moments such as finding out who the killer is as well as Matilda being killed and the journey of the boy going on the run.

Final Idea -

My series is going to be called 'Pigeon Hunt'

Pilot Episode -

We introduce the main characters

-Matthew (17), Protagonist
-Matilda (16), Killer
-James (16), Murder Victim

We open the episode with an introduction to the characters. It will initially follow the protagonist (Matthew), showing him as a character, understanding what sort of person he is. We then introduce the other two characters through the company of the protagonist. We get to understand their personalities through how they react to things and their way of life. At the start they are doing what they enjoy. Being out in the woods. The episode fully opens with a title sequence and a gun shot, which quickly cuts to a shot of a smoking barrel and our protagonist shooting bottles and cans.

The episode covers how the characters behave with each other and addresses their lifestyle. We follow them doing the things they enjoy such as making fires, dens and messing around in the woods. We see how they're clearly a reject group of people from the way they are. Their personalities are different to common teenagers.

The main aim of the pilot episode is to show how strange each character is, and how they compare to each other. The girl is certainly not a normal person. She says strange things and finds gruesome things satisfying such as killing animals.

When the younger boy James is found to be missing, the tone and mood stays fairly similar. The two others don't react very dramatically to his disappearance. And believe he will return soon. A couple of days later when they find his body in his own bed the episode gets a lot darker. The older boy Matthew doesn't really know hoe to react. He goes int the woods to the groups den. The girl comes up  behind him and talks strangely. She then pulls a hunting knife on him. He avoids it, and then he pulls his air rifle out which accidentally shoot her in the head. Here the screen would g black but we wouldn't know who is dead. That information would be revealed in the next episode. To draw in the audience, a half cliff hanger.

P4: Social Media Pages

Social Media

This is a social media page for the advertisement campaign for my BBC Three television series 'Pigeon Hunt'. The purpose for the social media page was to reach out to a larger demographic of audience without using much of the overall budget. Using social media I am able to promote photo's, videos, dates and content for free which will reach out to many people which they will be able to share with friends and spread the name of 'Pigeon Hunt'. Having a specific page where viewers can visit numerous times will give them a sense of series, a vibe that offers the themes and content that the series will contain.

Here I posted on the page as a reminder for the release date to the audience to make sure they don't lose interest in the series or forget about its release. Giving the audience constant reminders will build up hype for the series, preparing them for its official release date which they will know about.

A key part of drawing in the audience and giving them a pre sense of the series was choosing the right backgrounds for the page. Here I used the same title which will be used continuously throughout advertisement as a brand label. But as well I used a larger scale image for my background which is the same of that in my posters. The bleak image will give the audience a sense for the series' themes, but also introduce the world that 'Pigeon Hunt' revolves from, engaging them to the story and context for the series.

It was key to make sure all details in the blog were relevant yet didn't give too much away. I used a brief description to add to the mystery of the story and characters which mirrors what 'Pigeon Hunt' is all about. Uncertainty in a world, and mystery leading into fear.

I also created some posts as the characters which would give the audience a larger insight to the world of the series and get to know the characters more. It also offers alternate ideas perhaps not included within the series itself such as here, character motives and inner thought tracks. The Facebook page is another platform the audience can potentially learn more about characters and become more attached to them becoming very engaged with the series as a whole.
